Cinnamon Bun Pizza - with options

I was inspired by Brother Bruno’s cinnamon bun pizza. Scott’s Pizza (NYC) created an adventure in their “Is it Pizza” tour HERE.

Brother Brunos makes their own cinnamon buns out of pizza dough and half-cooks them before putting them on the pizza. I did a shortcut version.

This pizza can be made 2 ways - Add cooked breakfast sausage for breakfast, or leave it off for a sweet desert pizza. This is a great pizza to cook when your fire is dying down at the end of the evening.

Ingredients -

1 - Pizza dough

1-2 tbs. butter

6 -8 mini cinnamon buns - store bought, cooked. Mine were from Costco.

1 - batch of cream-cheese topping. Just mix these ingredients together until smooth.

  • 1/4 cup butter, softened

  • 4 ounces cream cheese

  • 2 cups confectioners' sugar

  • 1 teaspoons vanilla extract

2 oz. breakfast sausage - precooked and crumbled

Scant - Powdered sugar through a sifter to decorate

Steps:

1) Use a regular pizza dough. Stretch out the dough per your usual method.

2) Top the dough generously with butter.

3) Bake the dough in the Pizza-Porta until it is golden brown on the edges. Watch for and poke large bubbles in the middle. Cook the dough about 90% in this bake.

4) Slice mini cinnamon buns into pinwheels (make them about 1/2” thick)

5) Make up the cream-cheese topping

6) Pull the pizza dough out of the oven and arrange the cinnamon buns (and sausage on breakfast version) around the pizza. Add a sprinkle of cinnamon

7) Place back in the oven -briefly- to finish browning and warm the cinnamon buns.

8) Pull the pizza and let it cool for 2-3 minutes, then top each cinnamon bun with frosting

9) Decorate with a sprinkle of powdered sugar.
